urostomy A surgical procedure to create a stoma (artificial opening) so that urine can pass out of the body through the abdominal wall. A urostomy may be done if the bladder or urethra (the tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside of the body) need to be bypassed or removed. A special bag (urostomy bag) is attached to the stoma to collect urine.
