interferon

A naturally occurring substance that boosts the immune system and interferes with the ability of viruses to reproduce.

 

Interferons are a type of cytokine. Artificial or synthetic interferon can be used as a type of biological response modifier that can interfere with the division of cancer cells and slow tumour growth.
