cirrhosis An abnormal condition in which healthy liver tissue is replaced by scar tissue. Signs and symptoms include jaundice, fatigue, loss of appetite and itching of the skin. Cirrhosis may be caused by infection with hepatitis A or B virus, drinking too much alcohol or other disorders.
