screening mammography A procedure used to x-ray the breast in women who have no signs or symptoms of disease. Doctors use screening mammography to look for changes in the breast and tumours or cysts (sacs are usually filled with fluid or semi-solid material) that cannot be felt. Compare with diagnostic mammography.
